In this video we'll look at the different ways you can customize a GRUB boot menu
during the installation process. The default boot loader is GRUB also known as
the Grand Unified Boot Loader. It's the default for Red Hat Enterprise Linux and
all literature assumes that its installed. So don't select no boot loader unless
for some weird reason you're told to install system commander or partition magic
during your exam. We select use GRUB boot loader and click OK. In the boot
loader configuration menu you can enter special options associated with the kernel.
One example is something like SE Linux equals zero which makes sure to disable
security in Hats Linux when you boot Linux. If you have a somewhat older system
forcing the use of LBA32 makes it possible to start from a boot directory
anywhere on a hard drive but that's not necessary with almost all modern systems.
click OK to continue. If you're told to configure boot loader password during your
exam select the user GRUB password option and if that's what you're told to do
make sure to use the password you're told to use. You don't want to make things
hard on the person grading your exam, do you? Make the appropriate choice and
click OK. Now you can change what you see in the GRUB boot menu. Select the
option, click edit and you can change the boot label. When you've made your
changes click OK. Unless you have another boot loader like Windows NT loader or
partition magic you'll want to make sure that GRUB gets installed in the master
boot record. Select that option and click OK. To review what we've customized we
had the option of configuring a password, we could modify the label in the boot
menu and we've made sure that GRUB get loaded in the master boot record. Thank
you and on to the next video.
