Now that you've opened disk druid, we'll take a look at how you can configure
different types of partitions, this case software RAID. There are four different
levels of RAID available. Raid zero sometimes known as a volume set or volume
group is a single volume spread out over multiple partitions. RAID one is also
known as a disk mirror where two partitions contain identical information. RAID
five is known as stripe set, it requires three or more partitions but with the
parity information it can survive the loss of one partition. RAID 6 is a double
striped set, while it requires four or more partitions it can survive the loss
of up to two partitions. For the purpose of this video we assume that you
understand and have completed the previous steps in the installation process
using the videos described earlier. Now we'll create a dedicated grade one RAID.
Raid one is a disk mirror that requires two partitions but you can add the spares
you want. We'll create it for the slash temp directory and we want a RAID array
of 100 megabytes. Now let's return to disk druid and start making our RAID
partitions. I click new, I select a software RAID file system type and since we
want 100 megabytes in the array and this is a disk mirror we need partitions of
100 megabytes each. We want a second partition which completes the mirror and
we're going to configure a third RAID partition which will be used as a spare.
Now that we have three software RAID partitions, I navigate to the RAID option; I
configure the mount point as a temp directory, the RAID device will be formatted
to the extended three file system. We're using RAID level one which requires two
partitions but since we have three RAID partitions I can set up one as a spare.
The array will be formatted, I click OK and there it is I've created a RAID device.
When you're done click OK to continue and you're done with disk druid. Thank you
and on to the next video.
