Hello, and welcome to the Virtual Training Company's programming with Ruby. I'm the author of these videos, Al Anderson. We're going to be taking a look at the Ruby Programming language. It's also called a scripting language. The first thing that I'd like to cover with you is actually more generic in nature. It's called the art of programming and it's a little bit more of what actually goes into becoming a programmer, what kind of tools you need to use, the way you need to work your, your thinking in order to tackle various problems and apply programming to solving those problems, using the computer as a tool. Then we'll tackle the more Ruby-oriented aspects of learning to program and we'll go into the Ruby constructs such as if ah branch structures, ah case select structures, looping structures, those types of things. How to represent numbers, how to do the mathematics, how to manipulate integers, those, those kinds of things. And, and we'll build on those when we get into the more advanced things of Ruby and attach the concepts of, of generalized programming using the Ruby language. Finally, what we'll really tackle and dive deep into is that everything in Ruby is an object. Numbers are an object, every procedure calls actually a method call to an object so you're going to have an interesting time, I think, learning about how everything is an object in that way.
