We've looked at the Windows Clipboard in AutoCAD where we've copied and we've coped
with a base point. What happens now if we can paste objects that we have copied
to the clipboard to their original coordinates? And what we're going to do here,
we're going to select a whole group of objects that we want to place onto a
different drawing. So I'm going to using a Crossing Selection and I'm going to
click right over here in the drawing. So I'm going to left click and drag my
crossing selection like this. As you can see, it selects all of those objects.
All of those grips indicate objects that are selected. What I'm going to do is I'm
going to utilize the Copy with Base Point Option. So it's a right click and on
the Shortcut Menu, Copy with Base Point. I then specify the base point. I'm
going to use the corner of the building here, which is actually that grip there.
So I left click. That has now all been copied to the Windows Clipboard. I now hit
Escape to deselect those original objects. What I'm going to do now is I'm going
to make sure that I save my original drawing so I don't lose any of the data.
What I'm then going to do, I'm going to start up a new blank drawing. So I click on
New. My startup dialog box appears. I'm going to use a metric drawing and I'm
going to OK it and there's my blank drawing. So what I do now is I right click
and paste to my original coordinates. Everything is in its original place. The
only thing I haven't done is gone to the Home Tab and done a Zoom Extents. If I
now do a Zoom Extents on the drawing, there's my original objects. Now, what
you'll notice is where I've pasted those original objects in and you see now
that all the information, such as the attributes of the blocks, have appeared.
Now, the reason that that's appears is because I've pasted those objects in and
they become what they call Anonymous Blocks. Now, anonymous blocks show their
attributes. Now, what I would have to do here maybe is edit those attributes and
those Attribute Settings in the drawing. And we'll come to that in a later
exercise. But as you can see there, that is a whole new drawing that I've
created with the information from the previous drawing.
