You're going to want to have a wide variety of different ways to get things into After Effects, whether you're going to snap photos with a digital camera or you're going to shoot video with a camera. You're going to animate something in Maya or Lightwave or any of your other favorite 3D application. Or you're going to scan it in and then bring it into the application and move around as an image. So, what I want to talk to you about is some of the things I use when I'm working with After Effects and I'm not going to mention any brands, by the way, I'm just going to show you some generic things. For example you might want to choose a video camera to you know go outside an film your friend as he drives his bicycle over a ramp and then hit a tree. Of course, hopefully, you have an ambulance nearby. My friend Cory actually did that and well we didn't have the ambulance and Cory he's OK, but not quite the same. So anyway you want to have a video camera so you can shoot your video to bring into After Effects to then add your special effects and your post processing and all that kinds of good stuff. You might want to have a scanner as well so you can you know take pictures outside and bring them into After Effects to animate them. Use the great puppet tool to you know do all kinds of cool stuff as well, so you can take pictures of your aunt at Thanksgiving dinner and then use the puppet tool to make them move around. So really fun stuff. We also have; one of my favorite things on the planet earth which is the Wacom tablet and I have the Intuos 3 and what this going to do for you is pretty much give you a more natural way of inputting things in After Effects, especially when you use the motion sketch tool. So instead of using a trackball or a regular mouse you can move your mouse as you would in your life, as you would painting for example. And it's really a great way to relieve a lot of stress on your wrist; I use this thing a lot. So, those are a couple of the items that you might want to look into. You might also want to get a digital camera so you can make snapshots, bring them into After Effects and you might want to start looking into other applications as well to incorporate into your workflow. If you have the Creator Suite you're going to find out that you're going to work with Photoshop, you're going to work with Flash, Premier Pro and a lot of the other applications in concert with After Effects. Likewise, I'm a big fan of 3D applications such as Maya or Lightwave and I like to bring those into, those results into After Effects to animate and to add special effects, such as glows, rain, lightening and explosions. So hopefully some of these pointers will help you out and give you more creative ways to get things into After Effects CS3.
